Medicine – Whoda thunk?!

Medicine is one of those things we never thought to look for gluten in, until we had too. Now, while the list is small, we have found a few that work that do not contain gluten. The ones used the most in our house is Vick’s Natural Cold/Flu – the adults use it, of course, Calms Forte by Hylands, and Garden of Life’s Vitamin Code Kids.

The others are:

{New} Hyland Defend Cough and Cold and Night: An all natural cough and cold remedy. Safe for both adults and children.  Take at the first signs of a cold!

{New} Ultimate Flora Kids ProboticsThese probotics do not have to be refrigerated  so they are perfect for vacations! We used these last summer when we went out of town, and they were amazing! My children actually liked these better than their other ones! Click here for a coupon!

Calms Forte by Hylands: They are all natural sleeping pills for both kids and adults. We have used this product since our children were two, to help get through the restless teething, growth supports, and travel restlessness. It also helps calm night terrors and nightmares. I too take Hylands Calm Forte to help sleep on those nights my brain won’t shut off.

Vitamin Code Kids by Garden of Life: These small chewable tables are shaped like little teddy bears. While my daughters report they taste “bad”, the taste is of the old-school vitamins – a strong, tart flavor. If my daughters chew and swallow them with a glass of water, they say it is “still bad, but better”.  The perks far out way the taste.

Nighttime Cold & Cough 4kids by Hylands: This product has helped calm some of the worst colds in my girls! It also contains honey which helps coat the throat to stop sore/itchy throats and soothes coughs. I love that it does not contain ibuprofen, aspirin, or acetaminophen (aka Tylenol). It also helps them rest in the middle of the night and lasts close to 6 hours. It is a definite staple in our medicine closet.

Cold & Cough 4Kids by Hylands: I love to use this product during the day, when their allergies are getting out of control. This takes away the itchy eyes, scratchy throat, running nose down the back of their throats. So they can play and have fun. It “Contains no Aspirin, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Pseudoephedrine or Dextromethorphan.”  ~ quote provide by Hylands.

Complete Allergies for Kids by Hylands: Unlike Zyrtec, or Claritin, this product does not leave my girls drowsy or tired, and it works almost immediately. It can also be given up to 3 times a day, unlike the other products that last for 24 hours only to wear off in 12. It also helps relieve stuffy and runny noses that come from bad allergies.

Sniffles & Sneezes by Hylands: Fast acting, quick dissolving wonder pills! This takes the aches and pains out of colds in kids. They are administered every 15 minutes for the first hour or so. Don’t let this freak you out! After that, it is every few hours.  It has been “proven to shorten duration to almost half”. This is a great little bottle to keep on hand! It is just remembering it is there that is the problem!

Calm-a-tummy by Wish Garden: Wish Garden is a new product we have started trying.  It has a slightly spicy flavor, and a warming sensation when taken under the tongue. When mixed with warm water with honey, as suggested, it makes a wonderful spicy sweet tea that my daughter and I both enjoyed. Although it wasn’t very tasty once it cooled. We both noticed some relief from nausea and stomach pains within minutes of drinking the tea.

Vitamin C Tablets by Hylands: These are great for small children. They have a light citrus flavor, dissolve quickly under the tongue and provide the right amount of Vitamin C for kids.
